Cox Call Forwarding Instructions
This is a cheat sheet for Cox customers looking to direct their incoming calls to an answering service. Let’s walk through the various ways you can set up call forwarding on your Cox phone—whether it’s general call forwarding, no answer, or when busy forwarding. With call forwarding, you will never miss an important call—and always help customers when they need it the most.
Unconditional Call Forwarding
- Lift the receiver on your phone and listen for the dial tone, then press
*72. - After a second dial tone, enter the 10-digit number provided to you by your answering service.
- Call forwarding will be activated once you end the call.
Online Instructions
- Sign in to your Cox account on their website.
- Click on Services, then select the Voice icon.
- In the Call Settings section, find and click on Call Forwarding.
- Turn on the Forward All Calls switch and click Edit.
- Enter the phone number to forward all calls in the Forward To field.
- Click Save, and your calls will be forwarded.
No Answer Call Forwarding
- Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone, then press
*92. - After a second dial tone, enter the 10-digit number provided to you by your answering service.
- Call forwarding will be activated once you end the call.
Online Instructions
- Sign in to your Cox account and navigate to Call Forwarding.
- Turn on the Forward When No Answer switch and click Edit.
- Enter the forwarding number in the Forward To field.
- Choose the number of rings before forwarding.
- Click Save.
Busy Call Forwarding
- Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone, then press
*90. - After a second dial tone, enter the 10-digit number provided to you by your answering service.
- Call forwarding will be activated once you end the call.

- Sign in to your Cox account and go to Call Forwarding.
- Turn on the Forward When Busy switch and click Edit.
- Enter the forwarding number in the Forward To field.
- Click Save.
Selective Call Forwarding
- Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone, then press
*63. - Use the voice-guided menu to manage your selective forwarding list.

#01#. - Follow prompts to add specific numbers.

Cox Call Forwarding FAQs
1. Can Call Forwarding Be Enabled During Network Outages?
No, call forwarding cannot be enabled if phone services are currently down or part of a network outage. This is important to know in case of emergencies or unexpected service disruptions.
2. Are International Numbers Allowed as Destination Numbers for Call Forwarding?
International numbers are not allowed as destination numbers for both regular call forwarding and Selective Call Forwarding. Only domestic numbers can be used.
3. Can I Still Make Outgoing Calls When Call Forwarding Is Activated?
Yes, even when call forwarding is activated, your phone can still be used to make outgoing calls. Each time a call is forwarded, your phone will make one short ring to indicate the forwarding action.
